Club Fun Day & Testing Session at Mozingo

(posted May 12th, 2012)

Not enough guys could make it out fishin' again, so a few of the guys went to Mozingo for a club fun day.  The plan was to catch some bass, and even more so, to test a few baits from one of our resident lure makers in the club.  Even though not everyone had some new baits to test, it was more or less a fun day on Mozingo.  The lake was extremely crowded, but all four guys that showed up had really good success.  I'll share the results of what worked the next time we get together.  The guys that showed up didn't have a chance to compare notes at the ramp.  I'll definitely share some more baits with the guys that haven't had a chance to test some baits.

We'll probably have some more Pondbuster testing sessions this year if we can't get enough guys to go out.  It's too bad our club is not "arguably the finest club in the Midwest", so unfortunately, we may not be returning to Mozingo.  The fishing is decent at Mozingo, but the crowded conditions and lack of common courtesy among many other bass anglers on that lake has made it a poor location for our club fun day.

The really bad news is that I'm going to have to start making a lot more baits and lures now.

Bob Ivey Wins Again

(posted April 15th, 2012)

Bob wins another one.  Only five guys showed up.  Second day was cancelled because one of the five got called into work.  Bob caught three keepers for 9.90 lbs. with a big bass weighing in at 5.00 lbs. even.  Jess caught two for 3.10 lbs. and Derek caught one line burner for 1.70 lbs.  Dean and Roger zeroed.

The lake was pretty full with a bass club out of Iowa.  Eight boats were already on the water when we launched.  The lake was pretty muddy, water temps were pretty cold (around 60°), and about every bass caught was white and cold.

Bob Ivey Wins First Tournament of the Year at Bilby

(posted April 1st, 2012)

Bob showed up and dominated our first tournament of the year in almost every way.  He caught 5 keepers (culled a few too), had a total weight of 24.50 lbs., and won big bass with not one 6.00 pounder, but two of 'em.  The 24.50 lbs. total weight is a new club record (previous club record was 23.60 lbs. by Bill Hinz, also at Bilby).

Frank Novak managed to find 2 bass for a total of 6.40 lbs. to take 2nd place and Jess Stewart also found 2 bass for a total of 4.00 lbs. to win 3rd place.

Next tournament is a 2-day tournament at Harrison County Lake on April 14th & 15th, 2012.  Please let us know as soon as possible if you're planning on going so we can reserve the motel rooms.

Jess Stewart Wins Angler of the Year

(posted November 17th, 2011)

Our season finale at Banner Creek Lake was geared up to be a slug out between current leader Jess Stewart and reigning champion Ron Kling, Jr.  Only three people showed up, making it the 2nd Banner Creek tournament this year to be cancelled due to poor turnout.  Jess, Ron and Bill showed up to collect 15 pts. each, making Jess our 2011 Angler of the Year.  Ron finished a close 29 pts. back in 2nd place overall and Bill took home 3rd place overall, only 66 pts. back.  Overall big bass of the year goes to Ron with his 6.9 pounder from the first tournament of the year at Bilby.

Jess had his best day ever at Harrison, won our club angler of the year, finished 13th overall at State, was on the Championship team at State, and is most likely heading to the Red River to compete in next year's BASS Central Regional tournament - not too bad of a year.  Congrats Jess!

Want to Join a Bass Fishing Club?

Roger Alexander with a pair of nice bass

from one of last year's club tournaments

Our club is looking for new members. Most of our members live in southeast Nebraska, but our club schedules tournaments in Missouri, Kansas and Nebraska.  Many of our members live in the Falls City, Auburn and Nebraska City area, but we have a couple of members who live in Kansas.

We are always looking for members that have their own bass boats and non-boaters are always welcome too.  Most of our members have their own bass boats, so we usually have plenty of room for non-boaters to participate.  We usually schedule about ten club tournaments every year.  Our club is very relaxed - we meet up at the lakes for our tournaments, we have one meeting after the tournament season, and then our yearly club banquet in January.

Membership Questions

Most people's first question is "how much does it cost?"  Our club is a member of the Nebraska BASS Federation which costs $50 per year to be a member.  BASS Federation Nation members receive a subscription to BASS Times magazine, as well as many other benefits.

Members must also be a member of BASS, which costs about $15 per year.  BASS members receive a subscription to Bassmaster magazine, tournament elegibility, BASS member credentials, free tackle, and many other benefits.  Our club does not charge any additional membership fees, although you will be responsible for your own tournament costs (including entry fees, gas, tackle, lodging, etc.)

Tournament Eligibility

If you join our club, you of course are eligible to fish in our small club tournaments, but you will also be eligible to fish in the Nebraska BASS State Tournament.  Each club in the Nebraska BASS Federation can send up to eight (8) anglers to compete in the state level tournament.  The top 12 anglers in the state tournament are eligible to fish in the Central Regional tournament the following year.  The top finisher from those 12 anglers advances to the BASS Federation Nation championship, where the winner of the six divisions will advance to the Bassmaster Classic.

Our club hasn't sent a full team of eight anglers to the state tournament in some time, so the past few years, our club has had a "if you want to go to the state tournament you can" policy when it comes to competing in the state tournament.  Most clubs have anglers competing just to get to the state tournament, so if you join our club, you may already be past the first step of making it all the way to the Bassmaster Classic.

How to Join our Club

Joining our club is easy, just contact any of our club members and tell us you want to join. We will also be more than happy to answer any questions you might have. We have a lot of fun, we don't take ourselves too seriously, and it's all about fishing and having a good time.

2011 State Tournament

Truman Reservoir, MO

Jess and Derek teamed up with the Big 8 Bassin' club and actually showed up this year.  Jess finished 13th overall and is the official alternate for the BASS Central Regional tournament at the Red River, LA in 2012.

Jess and Derek were both in the top 13 going into day 3, but Derek blanked and dropped to 25th overall.

As a team, the Big 8 Bassin' (including Jess & Derek) managed to dominate the team competition.  They were the leaders through all three days and won the team competition.  Jess and Derek will let you look at their champion plaques... if you sign up for next year's state tournament at Grand Lake.
